Area Safeguarding Advisor North Kent, The Education People
I have previously worked in frontline children's services for 18 years in a wide variety of roles before joining the Education People as an advisor in August 2018. I have been a frontline social worker working in child protection, children in care and adoption. I have also been a team leader in charge of social worker both in mainstream children’s services and within disabled children’s services. I was also a LADO in Kent for 18 months. I feel that I have experience of lots of different disciplines and areas of social care. Within these roles the skills and knowledge to be able to make sound judgements about when children can no longer be safeguarded at home and the need to escalate matters to a legal arena. I am currently an area safeguarding advisor in Kent which is a role that provides a consultation service to a variety of educational settings. I also provide training to staff in educational settings such as Designated Safeguarding Training. I also offer whole settings training for schools and nurseries. The post is one of five advisors that reports to the Principal Officer (Safeguarding in Education). The key purpose of the job is to ensure that the local authority’s safeguarding responsibilities under section 175 of the Education Act 2002 and support, advice and training as required under Section 13 of the Childcare Act 2006 & the EYFS 2017 are carried out in a robust and effective manner. I live in East Kent and prior to joining the Education People worked for Kent County Council for 28 years. I am married with two adult children.
