James Bennett is the STEM Hub Co-ordinator at Canterbury Christ Church University. The STEM Hub’s mission is to empower young people by raising awareness of the vast range of careers available in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). It achieves this by connecting young people with STEM professionals through a diverse portfolio of outreach programmes that bring STEM to life in classrooms and beyond
The STEM Hub is the Delivery Partner for the STEM Ambassador Programme across the South East, a National and South East Regional Partner for ESERO-UK, and works with EngineeringUK to deliver Big Bang at Schools events throughout the region. These programmes enable young people to engage with inspiring STEM role models, develop their understanding of STEM careers, and gain real-world insights into the opportunities available to them.
Since 2018, The STEM Hub has engaged with more than 7,000 educational institutions, including primary schools, secondary schools and further education providers, reaching over 14 million young people. While much of this work takes place across the South East, its virtual programmes have also supported schools and learners throughout the UK.
James has been part of The STEM Hub team for the past 11 years, helping to develop and deliver a wide range of STEM initiatives that inspire young people and support educators. These include the East Kent Science Jamboree, Community Lab, Great Science Share, Primary Sparks, Big Bang at Schools, and many other events and activities delivered throughout the year. He is passionate about building partnerships between education, industry and volunteers to ensure every young person has the opportunity to discover the exciting possibilities that a future in STEM can offer.
